“NORTHERN MICHIGAN HAS TALENT”
On Saturday, February 23th, The Opera House will be presenting its sixth Annual NORTHERN MICHIGAN HAS TALENT, an amateur talent show featuring people of all ages, with talents ranging from vocals to bands to piano. This concert will feature eleven (11) amateur performing artists who reside in the Northern Michigan area, and who were selected from open auditions held Saturday, February 5th. This year’s proceeds from the Talent Show will go to the Robert Moloney Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships for students who attend summer programs to pursue their interests in the arts.
Cash prizes will be awarded to First through Third place winners, with First Place winning $150, Second Place $75.00 and Third Place $50.00. The judges for the show will select the winners, but the audience will select the “People’s Choice” Award.
The Talent Show will take place on Saturday, February 26 at 7:30pm. We will have a “Celebrity” Master of Ceremonies for the show. Panel members and judges will be announced.
Tickets are now available through The Opera House Box Office at 403 North Huron Street. Office hours are 9:30 A.M. through 4:30 P.M., Tuesday through Friday. Seating is Non-Reserved and all Tickets are $10.00. Call 231-627-5841 or 231-627-5432 for tickets.

The Grand Traverse Show Chorus, founded in 1954, consists of women from across northwestern Lower Michigan. The chorus and quartets entertain throughout the region with their unique barbershop style. The Chorus performs locally and regionally and attends educational events and competitions. Various quartets and small ensembles are also available for performances. The Grand Traverse Show Chorus is a chapter of Sweet Adelines International. Founded in 1945, Sweet Adelines International is headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It is one of the largest women singers’ organizations in the world, committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education and performance.

Third Level Crisis Center offering safeTALK Workshop on February 22nd
(Suicide Alertness for Everyone)
safeTALK is a one-day, 3 hour workshop for community members with all levels of helping experience interested in learning practical skills to competently and confidently connect a person at risk of suicide to help.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be prepared as an alert helper:
§ Capitalize on opportunities to help someone with thoughts of suicide
§ Recognize when a person might be having thoughts of suicide
§ Engage in direct and open discussion about suicide
§ Identify resources available to help and connect a person at-risk for suicide
§ Have confidence in being an effective resource yourself
§ Be part of a team improving the community's response to suicide
Cost: $40: Includes materials and refreshments. Discounted Fees: $30 for social work/counseling students and for agencies with 3 or more attendees. There are a limited number of scholarships available on a first come first served basis.

(January 14, 2013 Petoskey, MI) Camp Daggett offers great activities for families this winter. On January 26 and February 23 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m., experience the solitude of the wilderness as you snowshoe by torchlight at Camp Daggett. Bearcub Outfitters of Petoskey has once again graciously sponsored this family-fun event. Afterward, come in from the cold for a cup of hot chocolate, freshly baked cookies and to warm-up by the crackling fire in camp’s beautiful main lodge. Buy raffle tickets for great Bearcub products with all proceeds going to Camp Daggett. Admission is free, donations are encouraged, and snowshoes are available for all ages!
Fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers or big brothers are invited to bring their sons (ages 8-16) for a fun filled Father/Son weekend, March 8-10, at Camp Daggett. Cost is $150 for father/son, plus $50 for each additional son. Space is limited and registration is on a first come first served basis. Participants can expect a weekend of fun and adventure as they try their hands at various outdoor activities and enjoy wild game lunches and dinners in front of the lodge fireplace. If you’re looking for a way to beat the winter blues, or want to schedule a birthday party or family retreat at the Camp Daggett Adventure Center, the cost is $20 per person, which includes initiatives and high climbing walls, plus a room to do cake and ice cream. Minimum for this three-hour event is 15 people for a total of $300. It’s a great way to spend the day, play and learn together.
Registration is now open for Camp Daggett summer camp. Applications are available online or at area schools and local chambers of commerce. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Registrants for the first week of camp, June 16-22, get $50 off the registration fee.
