The Democratic Party's presidential nominee will give the biggest speech of his political career tonight before 75-thousand people at Denver's Invesco field. Barack Obama will be formally accepting the Democratic nomination for president tonight, the first African-American candidate ever to do so.
Republican presidential candidate John McCain may have decided on his vice presidential running mate. Politico.com reports the Arizona senator will reveal his choice at a campaign rally Friday in Dayton. Then the two will appear together over the weekend in the battleground states of Ohio, Pennsylvania and Missouri.
Tropical Storm Gustav is regaining strength near the island of Jamaica as another tropical storm develops in the Atlantic. Gustav is expected to dump plenty of rain on Jamaica today. By Saturday, the storm's winds could intensify to up to 115-miles-per-hour or greater.
The U.S economy grew more than expected in the second quarter of this year. The government says consumer spending and net exports were stronger than initially forecast for April through June. The nation's Gross Domestic Product, or GDP, rose by three-point-three percent during those three months.
As Muslims worldwide prepare for the holy month of Ramadan, Iraqi cleric and Mehdi militia leader Moqtada al-Sadr has extended a ceasefire. He is urging his many followers to instead peacefully protest the U.S. occupation of Iraq. The year-long ceasefire has been credited with decreasing the violence in Iraq.
Microsoft is about to release its next version of Internet Explorer. This version comes with an "InPrivate Browsing" mode, which critics are labeling the "Porn Mode" because when activated it stops the program from recording browsing history or storing files. Microsoft says it isn't the first browser maker to offer this capability.
