Why 92.1FM?
92.1FM is a translator class station and operates 24 hours a day. The 92.1FM transmitter site is located about one mile south of Petoskey at the studio site of WMKT. The broadcast antenna for 92.1FM at a height of 425 feet above ground level.
92.1FM duplicates the programming of 1270AM. 92.1FM was put on the air to supplement the signal of 1270AM in parts of the Lower Peninsula after sundown. Since it is meant primarily for listeners in the southern half of Emmet, and parts of Charlevoix County, it can be difficult to receive in other parts of the Lower Peninsula. 92.1FM does not transmit to the islands or the U.P.
At sundown, WMKT AM is required by the Federal Communications Commission to adjust its signal coverage. This adjustment causes 1270AM to be difficult to receive in parts of the Lower Peninsula. However, many listeners in the affected areas can hear WMKT on 92.1FM.
We invite you to try 92.1FM. But, if you have trouble receiving it, you should try 1270AM. Simply put, the signals are meant to augment each other...if you can't hear one hopefully will be able to hear the other. Just try flipping over to the other station.
